Geography Printouts
Published on: May 14, 2015
In the Montessori approach, geography is introduced as a living subject that connects the child to the wider world and nurtures a sense of wonder about our planet. Through hands-on materials like maps, compasses, and flags, children develop spatial awareness, cultural appreciation, and a deep respect for the diversity of life on Earth. These printouts support your child's journey from concrete exploration to abstract understanding, one beautiful step at a time.

This printable compass introduces your child to the basic layout of a compass rose. Use it alongside a real compass to help your child connect the printed image with a hands-on navigation experience. For a deeper dive into compass work, see our Compass Cardinal Direction lesson.
This printout teaches the cardinal and intermediate directions in a clear, child-friendly format. Invite your child to label the directions independently or use it as a reference during outdoor exploration activities. Continue with Compass Printouts Part 2 for intermediate directions.
A beautifully labeled world map showing all seven continents, perfect for introducing continent names and locations. Pair it with the Montessori color-coded continent scheme to reinforce learning through visual association.
This blank continent map invites your child to label the continents from memory — a wonderful self-assessment activity. Use it after your child has worked with the labeled version and feels confident with continent names.
How to Use These Printouts
Geography in Montessori education always begins with the concrete and moves toward the abstract. Here's a suggested progression:
- Start with the globe: Before any paper work, let your child explore a sandpaper globe or colored globe to feel and see the shapes of land and water.
- Introduce the labeled map: Print the labeled continent map and help your child match what they see on the globe to the flat map.
- Practice with the unlabeled map: Once confident, your child can label continents independently.
- Add compass work: Introduce directional language (“Africa is south of Europe”) using the compass printouts.
