Cat Nomenclature

Cat Nomenclature Printout

Cats are great hunters. We think the first cats protected granaries in Egypt about 4,000 years ago. The eyes of a cat are special. They have higher reflectivity than human eyes that allows them to see well in the dark. Cats also have excellent senses of smell and hearing which helps them be such great hunters. Cats are usually nocturnal, that means they're most active at night.

Cats form lifelong bonds with other cats and owners making them good sociable companions. Cats are the second most popular pet in the United States.

They have retractable claws that allow them to climb and move silently on the ground. Cats walk so that their rear paws step where their front paws just did. This minimizes the number of tracks they make and the amount of sound they generate.

Cats are carnivores.  They like to eat meat and fish.  My cat is ununual and eats melon sometimes.

Mother cats teach their kittens how to hunt. Kittens will often stalk each other, their mother or other animals and toys as part of their play. Cats come in different breeds that vary in color, hair length, personality and other features.
